2010 Pierre Gorman Award - applications open

Library Board of Victoria is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2010 Pierre Gorman Award.

The purpose of the Pierre Gorman Award is to support a public library based initiative that improves access to and/or delivery of library and information services for people with a disability.

The award is open to all Victorian public libraries and is valued at $15,000. Applications may either be from individual library services or multiple library services submitting a joint proposal. Applications will also be accepted from individuals employed in the Victorian public library industry wishing to propose professional development related to catering for people with disabilities. In the interests of fostering partnership opportunities, applications including or proposing partnership/s with appropriate disability agencies or service providers are also encouraged.

The scope of the award includes (but is not limited) to:

* Development of a new service, program or resource initiative.
* Activities fostering skills acquisition and community development outcomes.
* Promotion and/or development of services in public libraries for people with disabilities.
* Professional development of staff to cater for the special needs of people with a disability.
